Production of Music Video: Filming

Today was the day that we went to the Barbican to film some extra base tracks so we have also a strong ending to our music video because before we just had a strong beginning but weak and incomplete ending. So today was hugely important. The plan was to have a couple more of base tracks focusing on different camera shots like close ups, long shots etc. This was important as Annabel pointed out because most conventional music videos and different varieties of camera shots to make it look more appealing and enjoyable to watch.

Here you can see us filming in Barbican where we found this area where there was a massive centre in the wall where we thought we could have one of our base tracks in. Being careful, Yumi – our artist, went inside and sat down lying her back against the wall to make her look comfortable yet still making it look like she is concerned about trying to find her true self. We picked this area in particular because we there was a light shining on the wall and the centre where Yumi is sitting on was a little bit dark so with our lighting equipment, we shined it on her and the rest of that footage so it looked like the light was shining everywhere.

We then thought that we should have a medium close up shot of this scene so we did. But again, while filming we saw that there wasn’t enough light hitting her face so we thought about placing the light near her face but then we were able to see ourselves holding the light. So using our intuition, we thought about placing the light near her legs so that it shines on her face nicely, emphasising her facial expressions showing emotions from the lyrics of the song. You can see Ahmed trying to add the lighting. The lighting played a huge asset to our music video because we were able to manipulate how much light we wanted to shine on our artist because we were ale to use the darkness as well to show how lost and empty she is feeling. We filmed one scene where we shook the light from left to right very rapidly creating this glow onto Yumi and then creating this shadow – two contrasting feelings that she is experiencing – hindering onto her performance.
