Production of Music Video: Filming

In this base track, we had Yumi sitting on the stairs in an angle with Mika shining the light her shoulder to connote Biblical messages like an Angel is looking after her, guiding her to who she really is. IT WAS REALLY IMPORTANT THAT THIS MUSIC VIDEO NOT ONLY PLAYS ITS PART THROUGH EDITING AND MISE EN SCENE, BUT ALSO THE PERFORMANCE SIDE OF IT AS WELL, MAKING THE VIDEO LOOK DRAMATIC AND POWERFUL.

We planned on filming at the balcony in the Barbican because we wanted to have the city skyline in our music video to contrast her self-image – seeking through various interpretation of herself until she finds her real self. But we though creatively on how we should film this scene and Kyle came up with a great idea of having Yumi in the shopping trolley and having the camera fixed in one point so hat when we moved the trolley, the camera wouldn’t move out of place and Yumi wouldn’t move out of place, but the background would be moving.
This scene with this camera technique looks absolutely amazing because we thought about it creatively and managed to make it work. Also what was impressive was that today was a sunny day and the sun shun onto the buildings reflecting its light which got picked up n he camera and it look extremely mesmerising – using natural lighting from the environment! The great thin about having this shot was that having he background moving around Yumi shows her state of mind, how it’s like a world spin and how much thought she is putting into finding her true self.

We also filmed in the nature part in the Barbican because we really loved the vibrancy and life in this place. We thought it would look really passionate of we had our artist Yumi just walking around this place singing sometimes towards the camera and sometimes around the area to show how she is feeling.
