Research for Music Video: Carol Vernallis

Summary of Vernallis observations:

  • ‘Continuity’, is one thing that Vernallis found that is broken to draw attention to what is on the screen.
  • Edits are quiet evident to draw attention, to create some disjuncture within it, such as wipes and special effects
  • Jump cuts are often used
  • A base track is used to give structure to the video ‘Master shot’
  • The camera might move in time with the beat of the song

I kind of found this picture through google but.. it really shows you how the editing is used to draw the attention of the audiences, and the words being shown on the screen of what he says, well the "important" words, "charge now", shows his position or his status at that moment of the video being played. He is actually in charge of the screen because he's got his audience watching.

Vernallis talks about special effects, here's one where the glasses have pictures on it flashing and so on, again reinforces her point of attracting the audiences attention.
