Carol Vernallis looked at editing and camerawork in videos. She found that the usual continuity editing used for TV isn’t used in music video as the edits are more in time with the beat. This allows them to put more in the 3 minutes. Jump cuts and edits are frequently used.
I think Rhianna's S&M video reinforces Vernallis's ideas as the camera moves in time with the beat and the edits used are really evident.
