Reflection on technical skills in the lip sync tutorial

Technical Skills & Lip Sync Tutorial

During class, I was given an overview of how to lip sync the given film footage to a particular song. I had to drag the desired track from the folders onto Final Cut Pro then drag all the footages of the film recordings onto Final Cut Pro. I layered them on top of one another but the problem here was that only the footage right at the top was being shown through one perspective and the other footages were not being seen. To overcome this problem, the cut tool came in handy as it allowed me to delete certain parts of the footages, which then meant that the footages underneath could be shown.

I experimented with different scenes to make it look like a typical music video that encapsulates a variety of different angles and shots of the music video. The skills that I developed during this process was how to lay one footage over another in sync with the track and then closely listening to the beats of the song, I pressed 'M' on the keyboard that made a red mark on every beat. This helped clarify where I every beat was and then using the Cut tool, decided on which footages I should keep that goes well with the lyrics. The hardest part of lip-syncing was actually trying to get the footages in time with the music but a little alteration was needed and the lip sync then finally worked.

When we as a group had to film and edit our own lip sync video, the first hurdle that we faced was that we didn’t have the lyrics of the song so we didn’t know what to sing. We overcame this problem by simply focusing on the main lyrics, which were “FUN FUN FUN”. We only had this footage for lip syncing, which meant we had to re-use and re-use the same footage again and again, but we had footages of us and other people surfing to prolong the music video so that it’s not boring and didn't just relie on one scene where there is actual lip syncing happening. We as a group were very pleased of the outcome because the video complimented the music.
