After watching mine and everybody else's music video in the cinema, I asked a couple of people what they thought about our music video and this is what they said:
I asked what Faysal from the other class about what he thought about our work:
What did you like about it?
"I liked how there were different interpretations of the artist. It showed clearly how she was in search of finding who she is and the fact that she was in different outfits showed me that she was going through different looks to find who she is. I also like the scene when she is singing in front of the sun and when the camera hits the sun, it gives it that glare look".
What did you not like about it?
"There was only one small pause during when she was singing outside the building with the tinted windows. Even though it was small pause, being in the cinema it made it look big and dramatic, so maybe you should have checked the whole video out first when you were about to finish editing. Also, in some scene there were times when the artist lip syncing did not go in time with the song".
What should I have done differently?
"You should have spent more time recording because there were mistakes with your lip syncing. When recording, you should have taken your time and been patient because it felt that you were rushing some of the recording like when you were recording in her room and some times she was out of place with the lyrics. If you were to have done it again differently, you should have planned it more and thought exactly what you were going to do when you were recording".
I asked what Julien from the other class about what he thought about our music music video:
What did you like about it?
"Well firstly I really like the song because it wasn't too slow and it was very powerful. The scene that I really loved and the one that worked for me was the Jump Cut scene because it was very effective and it didn't look dodgy in anyway. I also really loved this scene because not only was it shot nicely, it clearly showed, accompanied by the lyrics of the artist state of mind and how she is feeling at this point. I felt sympathy because it looked like she was going crazy because she was jumping around, standing or sitting everywhere".
What did you not like about it?
"There was a scene when she was singing outside this tinted building where the camera was an over the shoulder shot, the camera felt a bit shaky and the shot didn't show much of the artist, it looked like yo couldn't keep up with her. Also, very embarrassingly, there was a huge pause during this scene - a glitch that showed you didn't really edit it properly, that you were being careless. ".
What should I have done differently?
"The thing that you should have done differently if you had the chance was to foolproof what you did before handing in your work. You should have also given yourself plenty of time to plan what you were going to do, practise the shots before heading to your location to film and you should have taken your time. There were some scene that felt too rushed or undone, its because you rushed it or just didn't perfect it. In my opinion, the music video is good, but it felt t could have been more better if you took care of it and made sure you put enough time and effort into it".
I asked Ayub what he thought about our music video:
What did you like about it?
"I liked how you thought about how your artist was going to look like from the beginning, middle and end and the effect of her losing her identity though the reflection of what she was wearing showed very powerfully of how she was losing herself, illustrating the message of the song. Also what i liked about your video was that it was different from everyone else's, your location, mise en scene and costume was different from everyone else's".
What did you not like about it?
"In some of the scenes, it looked a bit too rushed, as if there was no thought into what was going to come next, that you sort of just mushed any scene together - it felt rushed. Maybe if you took more time editing and less time filming on days that you were meant to be editing, this problem may never had risen. There are some good points like the high angle shots except that it was too shaky, and yes its understandable to get this shot smoothly because you were struggling but maybe you should have not gone with this shot and done something else".
What should I have done differently?
"The thing that you should have done differently if you were given the time was to plan very thoroughly the intended shots that you wanted and see if it is possible to do these shots smoothly and not shakily. Also, you should have spent more time focusing on the planning because some scenes felt like rushed and not thought out properly like when she is walking outside of the tinted building".
focussing when you are editing. Another thing is the importance of planning and knowing exactly what shot you want to film. I f I was to film this project again, i would spend a heck of a lot of time planning and detailing each shot and the intended effect it should have on the audience. I should have spent as much time with the filming of the jump cuts to all the other scenes because apparently it shows that the best filming was when it looked effortless like the jump cut scene.
Faysal's comments on my Advertisement:
What do you like about my Advertisement?
"I like how it is presented on screen because it look very attractive and the digipak doesn't seem to overpower the aesthetics of the advert. I also like the image because it is very pleasant to look at because of the smile".
What do you not like about my Advertisement?
Yumi herself is shouting at you!.
"Just remove the exclamation mark and just have the letter 'I' as normal, then there won't be no misunderstanding".
Julien's comments on my Advertisement:
What do you like about my Advertisement?
"What I really love about your Advert is that you have included the necessities like the critiques and the how many stars its has been awarded to persuade the audience of why they should buy her digipak. I also love that you have included a 'qr code' on the Advert as many people these days have smart phones so they can just scan it and buy it from there phone".
What do you not like about my Advertisement?
"I think you packed in too much information at the bottom with where you can buy her digipak and the other information like the website and what it includes. Maybe you should have used the whole of the space on the advert".
How can I improve/do differently?
"Use the space effectively and remove some of the brands where you can get the digipak from".
Ayub's comments on my Advertisement:
What do you like about my Advertisement?
"I really love how you are able to persuade the audience in buying her digipak by giving more to their money's worth by adding in her website details so they can see back stage interviews and gossip".
What do you not like about my Advertisement?
"The only problem is that it looks like an advert that you might find in a magazine and not on a billboard".
How can I improve/do differently?
"I think that if you focused on creating a billboard advert, then maybe you could have added more stuff and spread it out evenly so that people can read it without squinting there eyes".
What I have learnt from the audience feedback on the advert is that what i think the intended effect on the advert migt not come across to other people like her name. There was a bit of a confusion in how to pronounce it, people thought it meant something else. I think that if I was to do the advert again, that i should try it out first and see what feedback i get from the class and then finalise the ideas.
Faysal's comments on my digipak:
What do you like about my digipak?
"I really love the idea of having the fronyt and back cover brushed over by colour because its very unique and it look very striking. I like how the colours bring out her personality - she looks like she is happy and wants to have fun".
What do you not like about my digipak?"I don't like the fact that you added a musical note at the back cover because it makes it look childish and loses focus on the aesthetic of the digipak".
How can I improve/do differently?
"I think you should remove that musical note because it doesn't fit in nicely with the digipak".
Julien's comments on my digipak:
What do you like about my digipak?
"I like how the how the colours stay true to how she actually looks like because otherwise, you could have made it look completely different. I like the colours used and how consistent they are with each other.
What do you not like about my digipak?
"I think the inside might be a bit plain because there isn't anything in there except the image of the artist sitting down".
How can I improve/do differently?
Maybe you should have added an effect in the inside images even though i know you wanted it to be natural looking".
Ayub's comments on my digipak:
What do you like about my digipak?
"I really love the simplicity of the front cover by just having the image of the artist next to the side. Its really effective, especially with the shadow behind her".
What do you not like about my digipak?
"I don't like the inside of the digipak because it feels out of place with the front and back, maybe you should have coloured it in or used other colours to colour them in".
How can I improve/do differently?
"Maybe change the image inside of the digipak so that it compliments the front and back".
What I have learnt from the audience feedback on the digipak is that every panel should look and feel consistent with each other, complimenting each other with the front cover being the more dominant, more persuasive and powerful enough to make people reach out and buy it. I have learnt that being creative with your designs can make or break your product, and in my case it made it unique. I can see that the audience feedback is very positive with the colour idea but wants it to be consistent with the inside panels because it looks and feels empty.
