Ancillary Product Planning: What is a digipak?

On Tuesdays lesson we started to look at our Ancillary work we were given a presentation on what a digipak was.

So what is a digipak
A digipak is a product is modern version of a CD/DVD packaging it is a packaging mostly made out of cardboard  it will have information about the album and the band or singer on it which makes it more special this might make the new generation of young costumers want to pay for their music instead of downloading it illegally online.

Here are the note I wrote down in the class discussion:

  •  A digipaks main purpose is to add more value to a album or single.
  • It has more information about the artist or band making it more special to the buyers feeling like they have gotten to known the artists personality more than before they bought their digipak.
  • Digipaks have the artist name ( big, clear and easy to read)
  • Track listing on the back cover
  • Promotional sticker
  • Production information ( copy right, website)

Why is artwork popular?
  • Establishes artist as a brand
  • Attracts new fans
  • Promotes the artsit
  • show what genre the artist is in

How important are the ancilary product to the artsit and the industry, and in relation to the music video?

  • The industry want to make more money so they branch into different mediums
  • It helps prevent piracy because when illegally downloading a song or an album you wont get a digipak with so they are trying to encourage people to buy a digipak trying to make people feel that they are getting something extra special.

Do's and Don't when making a Digipak and magazine Advert :

I think these lists of do's and don'ts will be really helpful when deciding what and how I will  design both of my digipak
and advert.
